FAQs

In addition to the answers provided here, we’ve created quick reference lists of what we do and do not fund.

Q: Our organization is located outside your funding region, but we provide services in Washington, Idaho, Oregon and/or Utah. Are we eligible to apply?
A: Yes, if the project you’re applying for serves the residents of one or more of these states.

Q: I’m having trouble entering my tax ID number in the online system. What should I do?
A: If you experience any technical difficulties with the online application system, email RegenceFoundation@regence.com.

Q: What is the typical size of a Foundation grant?
A: We fund projects in the $20,000 - $90,000 range.

Q: Will I need to include information about other funding sources?
A: Your request will be more competitive if you have pending or committed funding from multiple sources. In both your narrative and line item project budget, please be specific about the project component or components you would like The Regence Foundation to fund.

Q: Does The Regence Foundation award grants for general operating costs?
A: Generally speaking, no. While we know how challenging it can be for nonprofits to cover these costs, we prefer to support discrete projects or programs. However, we continuously assess the conditions our grantees and community partners are operating in and may make exceptions. That’s why we always appreciate hearing what an organization’s most crucial needs and opportunities are.

Q: Does the Foundation fund overhead expenses and administrative or indirect project costs?
A: We prefer to support direct project costs, but we also anticipate that some of our grants may include a small line item for overhead or indirect costs. Please note that we are unlikely to fund indirect costs greater than 10 percent of the project (this must be calculated against project-related salary costs only).

Q: Our organization’s letter of inquiry was declined. Do we have to wait until next year to apply again?
A: No. The Foundation does not limit the number of times an organization may apply for a grant. But we do encourage you to be strategic and thoughtful about applying, and seek feedback from our staff about our funding priorities.

Q: Are we eligible to apply for another Foundation grant immediately after our current grant expires?
A: Yes. We do not limit the number of consecutive grants an organization may receive. However, a grantee’s final report must be submitted before a new application can be submitted.
